Knorr Shell -1755- Hand-Colored - FIVE SHELL FRAGMENTS - Antique Print

RARE, ANTIQUE, KNORR SHELL & CORAL PRINT

This 256 year old print is from "SAMMLUNG von MERCFIVURDIGFEIFEN der SATUR und ALFERFHUMERN des ERDBODENS/ PETRIFECIRTE LORPER" by Georg Wolfgang Knorr dated 1755. It was published in Nuremburg, Germany by Andreas Bieling.

This superb hand colored copperplate engraving (the size of the picture) is about 8" x 12 1/4" on a leaf that is about 10 1/2" x 15 1/2" It is in very good condtion but is has some usual marginal browning due to age. It is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift.

This is a Rare Print. The total set of books is for sale on the Internet for up to $24,000 and there are individual prints from this Knorr collection selling on the Internet for up to $1,100 each. 

These prints depict sea shells, coral and other petrified sea life. This work was noted to be one of the best illustrated and most complete works on fossils. Knorr was a noted proto-goelogist, art dealer, painter and engraver. One of his freinds in Nuremberg was the reknowned Christoph Jakob Trew.
