ABOUT THE AUTHOR

"Harris, librarian of Harvard College and a doctor of medicine, also taught natural history with particular emphasis on entomology. As a member of the 1837 commission charged with making a geological and botanical survey of Massachusetts, he wrote his Report on the Insects of Massachusetts Injurious to Vegetation (1841). This work was expanded and twice reprinted in the author's lifetime. "After Harris' death an admirable new edition was ordered by the Massachusetts legislature. It was well illustrated and the drawings by Antoine Sonrel and the wood engravings by Henry Marsh have hardly been excelled. The influence of this book was very great from the start. It is probable that no work on any branch of natural history published in the United States during the nineteenth century was better done." -- DAB VIII, 321."

The HAND-COLORED ENGRAVING was signed by Sonrel & Dougal. It comes from a book that is for sale as high as $1,200 on the Internet.

The specific print that is being offered is of "SEVEN MOTHS".
