CHROMOLITHOGRAPH
- ANTIQUE FOLKLORE PRINT
This 156 year old chromolithograph was rescued from Conrad Beckmann's "REINKE FUCHS" published by Druck und Verlag von Arnz & Co. in Dusseldorf in 1856.
Reynard the fox is the main character in a poem, whose tradition dates back to the European Middle Ages. A 1498 German book, "Reynke de Vos", tells how the culprit, Reynard the fox , inspired by tall tales and selected from all wickedness and precarious positions, at the end, prevails as the winner. This book was the beginning of well known German Folklore.
CONDITION
The print is in good condition, with minimal, usual age toning. The print is soiled, especially in the right lower corner. (see pics) The image is about 9 1/2 " x 6 1/2 " on a page that is 10 " x 7 1/4 ".(blank on back)
The chromo is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift.
