PEOPLE FROM ANCIENT COUNTRIES
This 321 year old copper engraving was rescued from Pherotee de La Croix's "NOUVELLE METHODE POUR APPENDRE LA GOEGRAPHIE UNIVERSELLE" or "NEW EASY WAY TO LEARN UNIVERSAL GEOGRAPHY" , published in Lyon, France by Chez Leonard Plaignard in 1690. The artist was P.Seuin and the Engraver was M. Ogier and the engraving is signed in print.
The engraving is in poor condition, with usual age toning and rough edges (I have cropped the print as if it will be matted and you can see the edge problems). The right upper corner was burned and there are worm holes on the left side (see pics). The image is about 5 1/4 " x 3 1/4" on a page that is about 5 3/4 " x 3 3/4 " . The engraving is suitable for framing and would make an excellent gift.
