COPPER ENGRAVING PRINT OF SCULPTURES
This 186 year old Fine COPPER ENGRAVING Print is from "Musee de Sculpture Antique et Moderne" by Comte de Clarac. It was published by Imprimerie Nationale in Paris during 1826 to 1853.
Charles Othon Frédéric Jean-Baptiste, Comte de Clarac (1777 - 1847) was a French artist, scholar and archaeologist.
Emigrating on the revolution, he travelled round Europe, finding success in drawing and archaeology. He was made conservator of antiquities at the Louvre in 1818. In 1838 he was admitted to the Academie des Beaux-Arts as a free member.
Besides a Catalogue du musée du Louvre and a Manuel de l'histoire de l'art, 1847, he wrote Musée de sculpture antique et moderne, 1826–1853, a magnficient publication which used up his fortune and which he was unable to finish before his death.
CONDITION
The engraving is in good condition, with usual age toning. The image is about 12" x 9" on a page that is about 18" x 12". The engraving is suitable for framing and would make an excellent gift.
