RARE, ANTIQUE, COPPER ENGRAVED PRINT
This 210 year old print is from "GENERAL ZOOLOGY or SYSTEMATIC NATURAL HISTORY " by George Shaw from 1805. It was published by G. Kearsley of London and was engraved by Mr. Heath or Mr. Griffith.
George Shaw (1751 - 1813) was an English botanist and zoologist. In 1786 he became the assistant lecturer in botany at Oxford University. He was a co-founder of the Linnean Society in 1788, and became a fellow of the Royal Society in 1789.
This copper engraving print (the size of the picture) is about 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" on a page that is about 8 1/4" x 5" It is in good condition with minor age toning and some image transfer. It is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift.
