Roberts's Holy Land Tinted Lithograph -1855- KALABSHE NUBIA

RARE, ANTIQUE DAVID ROBERTS TINTED LITHOGRPAH This 156 year old tinted lithograph is from "THE HOLY LAND" by David Roberts in 1855. The publisher was Day & Son of London.David Roberts (1796-1864) was born in Scotland. He started as a scenery painter and then an illustrator. During his extensive travels abroad he sketched local scenery and costume. His drawings of Spain were published as Picturesque Sketches in Spain in 1822. His greatest work however, was "THE HOLY LAND" which contained 250 tinted lithographs of views of the Middle East. His works have been praised and admired for their accuracy in depicting the architecture, costume, culture and landscapes of the Middle East. This chromolithograph print has an image that is about 5" x 7 " on a leaf or page that is 8" x 11". It is in very good condtion and is signed by Roberts in the print. This print was also finished with hand coloring. It is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift.Original copies of "The Holy Land" sell for up to $470,000 on the Internet.
