 ANTIQUE PRINT OF DESIGN

This 97 year old print is from the book "THE GRAMMAR OF ORNAMENT" by Owen Jones.  It was published in Paris, France by Day & Son Ltd. in 1856.

Owen Jones (1809 – 1874) was a London-born architect and designer of Welsh descent. He was a versatile architect and designer, and one of the most influential design theorists of the nineteenth century. His theories on flat patterning and ornament still resonate with contemporary designers today. He rose to prominence with his studies of Islamic decoration at the Alhambra, and the associated publication of his drawings, which pioneered new standards in chromolithography. These design propositions also formed the basis for his seminal publication, The Grammar of Ornament, the global and historical design sourcebook for which Jones is perhaps best known today.

This CHROMOLITHOGRAPH print has an image that is about 8" x 11 1/2" on a page that is 9" x 13".   It is in very good condtion. The chromolithogrphy is very fine and there is gold paint on many prints. It is suitable for decorating and framing and would be an excellent gift.

The chromolitho print that is being sold features "HINDOO No. 1".
