Fine 274 year old engraving from Niccolo Gualtieri's (1688-1744) "INDEX TEATARUM CONCHYLIORUM QUAE ADSERVANTUR IN MUSEO". Published in 1742 by C. Albizzi in Florence. This is one of the section frontispieces for a rare book that sells for over $25,000 on the Internet. Some consider it to be the most important shell book ever produced. The engraving was by P.A. Pazzi.
Produced on hand-made chain-linked paper and is in very good condition. The engraving is 6 1/2" x 5" on a page that is 17 1/2" x 12".
