PHOTOGRAVURE OF FAMOUS HISTORICAL CRIMES

This 151 year old steel engraving print is from the book "CELEBRATED CRIMES" by Alexexandre Dumas. It was published by Barrie in Philadelphia in 1895.

These books sell for up to $2,500 on the Internet.

Photogravure is an intaglio printmaking or photo-mechanical process whereby a copper plate is coated with a light-sensitive gelatin tissue which had been exposed to a film positive, and then etched, resulting in a high quality intaglio print that can reproduce the detail and continuous tones of a photograph.

This photograveur print after De Los Rios is in very good condtion with some minor age toning. There is also minor damp staining out side of the image and that will not show when matted and framed.  It is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift.

The print that is being offered is entitled "LA CONSTANTINE - The Due de Vitry finds the Cevalier de Moranges in the room of his inamorata, Angelique-Louise de Guerchi"
