Clouston's "JESSICA" - Fine Mezzotint Print - 1898

$ 99.99

  This 118 year old Antique Mezzotint Print is by R.S. Clouston from a painting by Lord Leighton in London in 1898.

The Mezzotint (also called "La Maniere Anglaise") is regarded as the noblest of prints and it expesses very fine tone and texture in the monochrome. The printing method is extinct as the difficulty and cost to produce a Mezzo-tint print was very high.

Proof - A proof is an impression of vintage prints pulled prior to the regular, published edition of the prints. A trial or working proof is one taken before the design on the matrix is finished. These proofs are pulled so that the artist can see what work still needs to be done to the matrix

This COPPER ENGRAVING MEZZOTINT is in very good condition.  The size of the image is about 10" x 7" on a page that is 12 " x 9 1/2".
