ANTIQUE HAND-COLORED COPPER ENGRAVING PRINT  

This engraved print is from a the book "BOTANICAL MAGAZINE" by William Curtis. The publisher was Thomas Curtis of London.  

The "Botanical Magazine" was first published in 1787 by William Curtis (1746-1799). After the death of William Curtis, the magazine was published by his brother, Thomas Curtis. Later, Samuel Curtis (a son-in-law of William Curtis) became proprieter from 1801 to 1845.  The prints were copper plates colored by hand.

Some of the distingushed artists were Sydenham Edwards, John Curtis, S. Curtis, William Jackson Hooker, W.H. Fitch and William Graves.

This engraving is on a leaf or page that is 10 " x 6 1/4".  It is in very good condtion with slight toning and with a deep indentation from the plate. It is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift for a print collector or a botany buff.

The engraving that is being sold is of "Plate # 1964, dated  1818".
