This engraved print is from a the book "ENGLISH BOTANY" published by James Sowerby in London .

James Sowerby (21 March 1757 – 25 October 1822) was an English naturalist and illustrator. The use of vivid colour and accessible texts were intended to reach a widening audience in works of natural history.

English Botany or, Coloured Figures of British Plants, with their Essential Characters, Synonyms and Places of Growth, descriptions supplied by Sir James E. Smith, was issued as a part work over 23 years until its completion in 1813. This work was issued in 36 volumes with 2,592 hand-colored plates of British plants.

This engraving is on a leaf or page that is 9 1/4 " x 5 1/2 ".  It is in very good condition with slight toning and with a deep indentation from the plate. It is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift for a print collector or a botany buff.

The engraving that is being sold is of "PYRUS COMMUNIS" Plate # 1784, dated  1807".
