RARE, ANTIQUE, BOTANICAL PRINT This 302 year old print is from "DER FRUCHTBRINGENDEN GESELSCHAST" by Michael Bernhard Valentini. It was published Paris and was engraved by Haussard. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Matthäus Merian der Ältere (or "Matthew the Elder", (1593 – 1650) was a Swiss-born engraver who worked in Frankfurt for most of his career, where he also ran a publishing house. He was a member of the patrician Basel Merian family. Merian learned the art of copperplate engraving in Zurich and worked in Frankfort for Theodor de Bry. His daughter was Anna Maria Sibylla Merian, born 1647) who later became a pioneering Naturalist and illustrator.

This hand-colored copper engraving has an image that is 5" x 5" on a print that is about 13" x 8". It is in very good condition with German script on verso.
