RARE ANTIQUE RUSSIAN ICON - POCKET TRIPTYCH WITH MOTHER MARY WITH JESUS AND THE 12 APOSTLES
This 260+ year old bronze Russian Icon was created in Northern Russia in c1750. Northern Russia is where these bronze Icons came from and they were developed by the "True Believers". I traveled to Northern Russia on business for more than 3 years during the mid 1990's. Religious people used to carry these folding triptych icons in their purses or pockets and rubbed on them as they prayed. .
The Icon includes Mother Mary with Jesus with God the Father looking down from above. The side panels feature the 12 apostles or saints.
The folding icon is in good condition, with excellent patina. The size of the Icon is about 3 3/4 " x 2 1/2 ". This Icon would make an excellent gift.
