STEEL ENGRAVING OF IRISH HISTORY

This 166 year old engraving print is from the book "HISTORY OF THE IRISH REBELLION IN 1798" by W.H. Maxwell. It was published by Baily Brothers Cornhill in London in 1845.

George Cruikshank (1792 – 1878) was a British caricaturist and book illustrator, praised as the "modern Hogarth" during his life. His book illustrations for his friend Charles Dickens, and many other authors, reached an international audience. Cruikshank was born in London. His father, Isaac Cruikshank, was one of the leading caricaturists of the late 1790s and Cruikshank started his career as his father's apprentice and assistant.

This lithogaph print is in very good condtion with some minor age toning and foxing.  It is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift.

The print that is being offered is entitled "MARQUIS CORNWALLIS, LORD LEUTENANT OF IRELAND IN 1798".
