LACEPEDE'S "HISTOIRE NATURELLE" -
This 168 year old hand-colored Lithogrpah was rescued from Bernard Germain de Lacepede's "HISTOIRE NATURELLE DES QUADRUPEDES OVIPARES, SERPENTS, POISSONS ET CETACEES" published in Paris by Furne et Cie in c1844.
Lacepede or La Cepede (1756-1825) French herpetologist, ichthyologist, musician and politician was born in Guienne. He worked for Compte deo Buffon and continued his work and was often included with Buffon in later publications. Lacepede was active in politics and was exiled from France during the Reigne of Terror.
The print is in very good condition, with minimal, usual age toning and minimal foxing (see print) . The image is about 7" x 4" on a page that is 10" x 6 1/2 " (blank on back). It is suitable for framing and would be an excellent gift.
