CHROMOLITHOGRAPH

PRINT OF BRITISH CASTLES

This 145 year old Chromolithograph print is from the book "THE COUNTY SEATS, A SERIES OF PICTURESQUE VIEWS OF SEATS OF NOBLEMEN AND GENTLEMEN OF GREAT BRITIAN AND IRELAND" by F.O. Morris.  It was published by William Mackenzie London in c1866.

These country houses of Great Britain and Ireland were produced by Benjamin Fawcett of Driffield, Britain's finest nineteenth century woodblock or chromolithograph printer. Morris's Seats, as the series is now more usually called, is one of the very few historical pictorial records of contemporary coloured views of the country houses of the British Isles during the  Victorian period. As such, the series is particularly valuable as many of the houses illustrated in it have since been demolished.

Each view is 8 x 11 inches in overall size including the margins with the view itself being approximately 5 x 7.5 inches. It is in very good and unmarked condition. The views are very suitable for framing.
